Craigslist customer says iPhone, cash, gun were stolen

FORT WAYNE – It’s become a familiar story: A person hoping to buy a high-tech gadget answers a Craigslist ad and agrees to meet the seller, only to be stalled and then robbed.

A man told Fort Wayne police he and a friend were robbed at gunpoint late Friday while responding at a Fort Wayne apartment complex to an ad posted for an iPhone 5 and that the robbers took their money, an iPhone 4 and a .40-caliber semiautomatic handgun.

According to a police supplemental report, the buyer was directed to Villa Capri Apartments at Fox Point Trail, east of South Anthony Extension, and that he took his roommate. He said he talked to the supposed seller by phone when he got to the complex about 11:30 p.m. and that he was told the seller would meet him outside.

Instead, a man came out and told the buyer that the seller was inside, feeding his baby a bottle, and would be down in just a minute. Shortly afterward, a second man showed up with a handgun and demanded their money.

The buyer said he and his roommate were then patted down by the robbers, who took his own phone and the Taurus Millennium Pro gun from his pockets.

After the robbery, the report said the victim had to borrow a phone to call police.
