FORT WAYNE – The drowning deaths of a man and woman who were in a pickup truck as it plunged into the Maumee River last month have been ruled accidental.
What exactly caused the truck to veer off the Tecumseh Bridge, though, has either not been released or determined.
The Allen County coroner, who ruled that Mark Wayne Staulters, 53, and Tamee Ann Staulters, 44, died from drowning, officially ruled the manner of their deaths accidental Wednesday.
The Staulters – who were married to each other but divorced in 2011 – were found dead inside the cab of the truck after a passerby noticed a broken railing on the bridge the morning of Nov. 7.
Fort Wayne police at the time had no witnesses to the crash, so its unclear when the truck actually went off the bridge.
Who was driving the pickup has yet to be released as well. Indiana court records show that Mark and Tamee Staulters each had two previous convictions for driving while intoxicated.
Results of toxicology tests in the aftermath of the Staulters deaths were not released Wednesday.
