Gusty winds, snowdrifts expected today

FORT WAYNE – Much of northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio are likely to see another inch or two of snow today, and the National Weather Service in northern Indiana says gusty winds and snowdrifts could cause problems later in the day.

A frontal boundary will move through the region, bringing light and moderate snow into the middle of the afternoon, the weather service said. A frontal boundary is caused when two different air masses meet.

The heaviest snow and wind are expected to be north of U.S. 6. The weather service said winds will increase to 10 mph to 20 mph, with some gusts reaching 30 mph.

Widespread drifts are expected, and the weather service said some rural roads could become hazardous. Gusts could also cause reduced visibility at times.

The winds are expected to subside later in the evening.

The advisory area includes Allen, DeKalb, Kosciusko, LaGrange, Noble, Steuben and Whitley counties in northeast Indiana, and Williams, Defiance and Paulding counties in Ohio. It is in effect from 1 to 10 p.m. Tuesday.

The weather service said a major winter storm is becoming increasingly likely this weekend.
