Gas station bandits settle for candy, chips

Fort Wayne police are investigating a gas station robbery on the near south side Sunday night.

But in lieu of money that was protected behind bulletproof glass, the robbers made off with candy instead.

Officers were called to the Marathon at 3230 Fairfield Ave. just after 11:15 p.m.

Once there, an employee told them two men with masks came in and pointed a gun at him, police reported.

The employee said he was protected by a panel of bulletproof glass, so he ducked down behind the counter and called police.

The two men left, he said, but not before grabbing a handful of candy and some potato chips, according to the police report.

Officers tried to find tracks in the snow and even brought a K-9 unit to the scene, but couldn’t find any trace of the gunmen.
