Armed, masked robbers make off with candy

FORT WAYNE – An employee’s quick reaction Sunday left armed and masked robbers nothing to steal except a handful of candy and maybe a couple bags of potato chips.

Two thin men in black went into the Marathon gas station at 3230 Fairfield Ave., one of them pointing a gun at the worker and demanding money, according to police supplemental reports. The employee, who was protected by bulletproof glass, ducked down behind the counter and called police.

He told police they snatched the snacks and ran from the station, going northwest. A police dog was called in, and Ado followed the track to the 700 block of Kinnaird Avenue, the reports said.

The employee said both robbers wore masks -- one black, one blue.
