Arrest made in death of Ohio girl found in trash

SMITHVILLE, Ohio – Authorities say a suspect has been arrested on a murder charge in the death of a 9-year-old Ohio girl whose body was found in a trash bin.

The Wayne County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest Sunday in the death of Reann Murphy. A news conference was scheduled for 2:30 p.m.

Reann was last seen Saturday night playing outdoors at the mobile home park where she lived in Smithville, about 30 miles southwest of Akron.

Officers, firefighters and residents began a frantic search for her. Deputies found her body in a trash bin at 1:30 a.m. Sunday, about five hours after she was reported missing.

The department didn't respond to repeated requests for further information Sunday, including how Reann was killed.
