Indianapolis Cathedral receiver wins Mr. Football

INDIANAPOLIS – Terry McLaurin of Indianapolis Cathedral has won this year’s Indiana Mr. Football award.

The versatile playmaker received 19 votes from a panel of Indiana Football Coaches Association members. Cardinal Ritter quarterback Jake Purichia was second with nine votes, followed by Andrean quarterback Matt DeSomer with eight.

McLaurin is listed as a receiver, which is where he’s expected to play at Ohio State. But Cathedral coach Rick Streiff also used him as a kick returner, at running back and even on defense. He was the perfect fit in each role.

During Cathedral’s 42-18 Class 5A state championship win over Westfield, McLaurin ran for two touchdowns, caught another and intercepted a pass.

McLaurin is the second Mr. Football winner from Cathedral. Otis Shannon won the award in 2000.
