Top volleyball players to face off

The best in northeast Indiana will get a chance to go against each other in an all-star volleyball match.

The inaugural All-Northeast Indiana Volleyball Showcase will take place at 7 p.m. Dec. 22 at the SportONE/Parkview Fieldhouse.

The two all-star squads will be chosen using The Journal Gazette’s 2013 All-Northeast Indiana teams, which were published Sunday.

“The primary purpose for having the game is the opportunity to showcase the players and the talent in the area and give them an opportunity to end their season on a high note with some additional recognition,” said Scott Lauer, the organizer of the event and the assistant club director of Pineapple Volleyball Club.

“And it’s a chance to compete at the highest level against some of the best players in the area.”

Coaches will be Olympian Lloy Ball and Saint Francis women’s coach Fabiana Shields.

Admission will be $3 with the money going for expenses and to a charity scholarship.

Tom Didier will sing National Anthem.
