Winter weather advisory issued

The National Weather Service in northern Indiana has issued a winter weather advisory for the following counties in northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio:

  • Wells
  • Adams
  • Grant
  • Putnam
  • Van Wert
The weather service said a "significant system" will bring a mix of rain, sleet and snow this evening that will change to all snow by late evening Thursday.

Up to 2 inches of icy snow could accumulate by daybreak, according to the forecast.

The snowfall is expected to taper during morning commute times, followed by a second surge of snow late Friday morning.

Total snowfall amounts could be between 3 and 6 inches in the advisory area, the weather service said.

The worst of the weather is now expected to south of a line roughly between Hartford City in Indiana and Lima, Ohio.

The advisory is in effect from 9 p.m. Thursday to 9 p.m. Friday.
