Motel rapist gets 10-year term

Demetrius T. Eldridge

A Fort Wayne man who raped a woman in a Motel 6 in August was ordered Tuesday to serve 10 years in prison.

Demetrius T. Eldridge, 19, was arrested Aug. 21 after a woman’s yells for help and a child’s crying prompted the motel’s manager to call police.

Officers were quick to arrive at the motel at 3003 Coliseum Blvd. W. and took Eldridge into custody.

The woman told police she went to the motel to pick up her young daughter from someone there, but when she arrived Eldridge grabbed her and pulled her into a room.

She said Eldridge threatened her with a gun and then raped her, according to Allen Superior Court documents.

Allen County prosecutors initially charged Eldridge with several felony counts, including rape with a deadly weapon, rape, criminal deviate conduct and sexual battery.

Eldridge later pleaded guilty to one count of rape and one count of resisting law enforcement as part of a plea agreement.

According to court records, Judge Wendy Davis sentenced Eldridge to 15 years in prison on the rape count but suspended five of those years.

She gave him one year on the resisting law enforcement charge but ordered that to be served at the same time as his rape sentence.

Eldridge also received 44 days credit for time served in jail while his case made its way through the legal system.
