Ohio motorist, 83, dies after smashing into stopped semi

– An 83-year-old driver has died after his vehicle struck a semi Tuesday morning on Indiana 37 northeast of Fort Wayne, according to the Allen County Coroner’s Office.

Wilbur R. Cox, of Bryan, Ohio, died from his injuries Tuesday afternoon at Parkview Regional Medical Center, the coroner’s office said.

The crash occurred about 6:30 a.m. on Indiana 37, north of Irving Road. Cox, wearing a seat belt, ran into a semi that had stopped, the coroner’s office said.

It was unclear whether the semi was on the road or the shoulder. Phone messages left for a sheriff’s department spokesman were not returned Wednesday. The name of the semi driver was not released. The crash remains under investigation.

Cox’s death was the county’s 28th traffic fatality this year. The county tallied 37 traffic deaths in 2012 and 28 in 2011.
