FORT WAYNE – The Air National Guards 122nd Fighter Wing will conduct a unit effectiveness inspection today through Sunday.
This test of the fighter wings combat readiness might grab the attention of neighbors and passers-by. In practicing to deploy against a simulated chemical threat, the Ferguson Road base will be launching jets, making loud-speaker announcements, sounding the base siren and sending radio communications.
We wish to inform our public of the exercise so as not to cause panic with anyone that may listen to a scanner or live near or drive by the facility and hear the announcements, Master Sgt. Darin Hubble, public affairs officer, said in an email.
Base announcements will be identified three times as exercises. Hubble said no live ammunition or weapons or hazardous chemicals will be used during the drills.
All elements are simulation only, he said.
The 122nd Fighter Wing said in a news release that the purpose of the inspection is to validate the combat readiness of units and their ability to execute assigned missions and tasks against a defined standard.
