A 2006 Freightliner semi, traveling west in the right lane, hit the Volvo semi. This caused the Freightliners fuel tank to rupture, and both rigs caught fire, the patrol said.

The driver of the Volvo semi, Czeslaw Szotek, 53, of Mississauga, Ontario, escaped his cab with minor injuries, the patrol said.

The crash remains under investigation.
