The Ohio State Highway Patrol's Van Wert Post is investigating a fatal crash at 12:50 a.m. Tuesday on U.S. 24 near Antwerp.
A 2007 Volvo semi operated by Czeslaw Szotek, 53, of Mississauga, Ontario, was west of Ohio 49, parked on the right shoulder of the westbound lanes, when it was struck by a 2006 Freightliner semi going west, the patrol said.
The impact caused the fuel tank of the Freightliner to rupture and both vehicles ignited. Szotek was outside his truck and received only minor injuries, but the patrol said the driver of the Freightliner died.
He was later identified by the patrol as Andrew Nowacki, 53, of Kitchener, Ontario.
U.S. 24 was closed following the crash, but is now open in both directions, the patrol said early Tuesday afternoon.
Troopers were assisted by the Paulding County Sheriff's Office, Antwerp Fire Department and EMS, Crane Fire Department, Woodburn Fire Department, Ohio Department of Transportation, Paulding County EMA, Paulding County Coroner, EPA, Houge Towing, John's Towing and Environmental Response Services.
The crash remains under investigation.
