Allen County taxpayers have two weeks before fall property taxes are due.
Property owners received statements containing the spring and fall invoices earlier this year when the county mailed out 160,000 tax bills, Allen County Chief Deputy Treasurer William Royce said.
Taxpayers will get two extra days to pay since the normal deadline of Nov. 10 falls on a Sunday and Monday is Veterans Day, Royce said.
But payments must be received in the treasurers office or postmarked by Nov. 12 to avoid penalty, Royce said.
If tax bills are paid late, but within 30 days of the due date – providing there are no other pending penalties – a late charge of 5 percent of the unpaid balance will be added to the bill, he said. If paid more than 30 days late, the added penalty will be 10 percent of the unpaid balance.
This year, for the first time, tech-savvy taxpayers will be able to pay their taxes using a smartphone or mobile device, Royce said.
We constantly look for more convenient ways for taxpayers to pay their taxes, Royce said. With this new phone app, people can look up and pay taxes from anywhere in the world where they can find a signal.
Dont worry if you prefer to mail the property tax payment – the office offers several modes of payment, including traditional mailing or paying it in person. Methods include:
From a mobile device – Type ACIMAP.US/MPATI into the Web browser and download tax bills or pay by electronic check or credit card.
By mail – Send to Allen County Treasurer, P.O. Box 2540, Fort Wayne IN 46801-2540. Payment must be postmarked Nov. 12 or before to be considered on time.
At a local bank – Visit any Allen County banks listed on the back of the tax bill. Tax statements are required when paying at a bank and no late payments are accepted.
In person: Pay at the Treasurers Office at the Rousseau Centre (former City-County Building), Suite 104, 1 E. Main St. Bring the entire statement when paying in person. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. The deposit slot in the front of the Treasurers Office is available from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Drop box: Deposit tax payments in the night depository for the Clerk of the Court and Allen County Treasurer on Main Street in front of the Courthouse, or in the night depository at any Star Financial Bank location.
