Statement as issued Tuesday by the Indiana Department of Transportation:
ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. – The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) announces that on Wednesday, October 30, weather permitting, two “40 MPH WHEN FLASHING” school speed limit signs will be installed on SR 1 near Cedarville Elementary School, which is located on Hardisty Road, west of the town of Leo-Cedarville. One sign will be located 900 feet west of Hardisty Road, and one sign will be located 350 feet east of Hardisty Road. The signs will designate an enforced speed limit of 40 mph when flashing, between the hours of 8:15 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. and 3:15 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. on weekdays. All other times, the posted speed limit will be 50 mph.
The signs are being installed due to concerns from parents, Cedarville Elementary School administration and East Allen County Schools administration. After investigation, INDOT technical services engineers concurred with the need for a reduced speed limit during the above posted hours.
INDOT reminds drivers to use caution and consider worker safety when driving through a construction zone. For the latest news and information about INDOT, visit www.in.gov/indot.
