Statement as issued Monday by Latinos Count:
“Attend college.” That’s the message several speakers will deliver Tuesday morning, October 29 to more than 400 Latino students at South Side high school.
The lineup of speakers includes the following:
•College Admissions Process: Speaker, Larry Gonzalez, Associate Director of Admissions, IU Bloomington campus
•Testimonial: Alfredo Perez, South Side Graduate, and Director of Sales Engagement and Administration, DePuy Synthes, Warsaw, Indiana.
• Hope for Undocumented Students: Angelo Mathay, Law Fellow, National Immigration Law Center, Washington, DC. The federal government began a program last year that provides youth temporary protection from deportation. Administered by the Department of Homeland Security, the program is known as Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA).
The event sponsor is Latinos Count, a newly formed non-profit serving Fort Wayne and northeast Indiana. Steve Corona is the Executive Director and Alfredo Perez is board chair.
The vision statement of Latinos Count is: “To prepare Latinos for global opportunities.”
