A planned expansion of a YMCA in Auburn is set to include more focus on cardiovascular health and womens services while adding a running track, racquetball courts and classrooms.
Officials with the YMCA of DeKalb County announced Thursday that 44,000 square feet of space will be added to the facility at 533 North St.
The expansion is part of a new partnership between DeKalb Health and Parkview Health, officials said.
A capital campaign is underway to raise the $8 million needed to open the expanded facility, with a matching grant opportunity from the Dekko Foundation available to businesses and individuals who want to contribute.
An initial plan for the facility also includes improved child-care areas and an indoor child play area along with three multifunctional gyms.
DeKalb Health will lead efforts on employee health and internal wellness, while Parkview Health will offer expertise in cardiovascular and womens services.
This will be a world class facility with world class partners, said Matt Fetter, a YMCA of DeKalb County board member and capital campaign chair, in the media release.
Groundbreaking is planned for November, and the facility is scheduled to be completed next year.
