Safety scissors sliced through a colorful paper chain Wednesday afternoon to mark the ceremonial opening of Lutheran Hospitals pediatric emergency room.
Lutheran Health Network invested $2.4 million to build a separate pediatric emergency department at its southwest Fort Wayne hospital. The 7,108-square-foot addition adjacent to Lutheran Hospitals main emergency department is scheduled to open to patients next week.
The pediatric ER includes seven private exam rooms with TVs, DVD players, access to video games and reclining rocking chairs. All of the departments staff has specialty training in treating children.
Lutheran Childrens Hospital was created in 1999, using the hospital-within-a-hospital concept.
