A Michigan-based furniture retailer is investing millions in a new store across from Glenbrook Square.
But dont expect to do your Christmas shopping there.
Art Van Furniture plans to open in January in the space formerly occupied by the Ashley Furniture HomeStore. The retailer plans to create 40 full-time and 10 part-time jobs in the new store.
The average sales representative earns at least $38,000 annually, spokeswoman Diane Charles said in an email.
The 46,000-square-foot store will sell furniture for various places in the home, including living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms and offices. Among the brands it carries are La-Z-Boy, Styles, England, HGTV Home and Cindy Crawford Home.
Some items are in stock, available for immediate delivery. Custom-made items are manufactured in the U.S. and typically are available in three to six weeks, Charles said.
The retailer was founded in 1959 by Art Van Elslander. It ventured beyond Michigan for the first time this year. The Warren, Mich.-based company now operates 39 stores, including locations in Toledo and the Chicago area.
Elslander, who supports numerous charitable causes, has been inducted into the American Furniture Hall of Fame, where he is a former Retailer of the Year.
Charles didnt provide an exact number for the companys local investment, but she said that between real estate and renovations, Art Van spent multiple millions.
Ashley HomeStore, which specializes in custom-order upholstered furniture, moved this fall to 6334 Lima Road. Its owners wanted to own rather than lease the building they occupied, the store manager said.
