Teen critical after shooting

– A teenager was shot and badly wounded Saturday night in an alley on Fort Wayne’s south side, city police said.

Several people in a neighborhood a couple of blocks north of Weisser Park called police to report hearing gunshots at 8:10 p.m., said officer Jeremy Webb, a police spokesman.

Police officers were dispatched to the 800 block of Colerick Street, and in an alley just south of Colerick, they found the teen with gunshot wounds, Webb said.

“It appeared that the victim possibly knew the suspect. We do have people of interest that we’re looking into,” Webb said, adding that police had not arrested anyone.

Webb said the victim was taken in serious condition to a hospital where his condition was downgraded to critical. His name and age were not released.

Webb said it’s not clear how the shooting occurred. “Because it happened in the alley at this hour, right now, we’re still trying to determine if anybody saw anything,” he said.

As of late Saturday, a motive had not been determined, he said.
