  • North Clinton Scott’s in need of upgrade
Since John Hubertz started the discussion of the “deplorable” situation at Kroger’s Southgate Plaza store (July 21), I would invite him and the Kroger’s managers to visit Scott’s on North Clinton Street.
  • Family paper must stand for biblical values
Oh. Good. Grief. Gay/lesbian “marriages” are not even legal in Indiana and should not be legal in the entire United States of America.
  • It’s our responsibility to aid children in need
In a July 21 letter, the writer was concerned that expansion of the Fort Wayne Community Schools’ free meal program will foster dependence and irresponsibility in the children and families who will benefit.

Wartells bid community fondest of farewells

As we prepare to leave Fort Wayne and move to our new home in Albuquerque, N.M., we want to express our gratitude to the people of northeast Indiana. Your support was instrumental in developing IPFW into the great university that it is – and made the job both rewarding and fulfilling!

Northeast Indiana deserves to host such a dynamic university as IPFW, and IPFW deserves to make its home in such a vibrant and energetic community as Fort Wayne.

On a more personal note, the opportunities that this community has afforded us since our arrival in 1993 have been extraordinary. We have been privileged to raise our family in a safe, culturally rich environment, to educate our two sons in an outstanding public school system, to meet and share experiences with a vast array of Hoosiers, and to grow with this community.

We have enjoyed sharing the company of notables and seen, with great joy, the community and university interact and develop in many ways, some of them quite unexpected. And we have had the joy of having students in our home, watching them find their place in the world and become contributing adults.

Fort Wayne and northeast Indiana have afforded us a life that could not have been duplicated anywhere else; for that we are truly grateful. And, just as we welcomed thousands of Hoosiers into our home in Fort Wayne, our friends will be welcomed into our home in New Mexico as we say "Bienvenidos a Tierra del Encanto!," Welcome to the Land of Enchantment!
