FORT WAYNE – No one was injured in a fire Friday night at an apartment building on Fort Waynes west side, according to the city fire department.
About 8:30 p.m., fire crews were called to the two-story, 16-unit building thats part of Pointe Inverness Apartments, near Illinois and South Hadley roads.
The building was safely evacuated, and firefighters found flames in one apartment and stopped them from spreading into three adjacent units. It took about 45 minutes to bring the fire under control, Fire Chief Amy Biggs said.
No one was home in the unit where the fire started. The damage to that apartment was extensive, Biggs said.
The cause is being investigated.
Late Friday, Biggs said it was not yet clear how many residents would be displaced by the fire. She said firefighters were still working to clear smoke from the building.
