A parent called Thursdays meeting between South Side officials and Archers football players parents positive.
The groups met for about 30 minutes in the schools auditorium to discuss the fight at last Fridays game at Indianapolis Tech, and also the subsequent penalties handed down by the IHSAA.
The meeting was closely guarded, with police presence and a few parents offering no comments after the meeting, as requested to by the South Side administration.
The principal (Carlton Mable) handled it well, said the father of one of the players, who did not identify himself. He accepted what penalties the officials in Indy gave for both teams.
He listened to some parents concerns. He said players are strongly instructed to give 100 percent of their all, but not to let it affect them and have any more issues.
Mable was seen after the meeting getting into his truck, speaking with a group of parents and then driving away.
The game was stopped with 1:41 remaining in the third quarter a week ago after players and coaches got into an altercation. The IHSAA handed down its penalties Tuesday. Both head coaches – Eddie Fields for South Side and Emil Ekiyor for Tech – were suspended one game. And an assistant coach from each team – Dan Muchler for South Side and Angelo Muhammad for Tech – were suspended for the season.
The schools were placed on probation until 2014, and some players were suspended for a game. South Side will have two players sit out a game.
The parent was at the game but said it happened on the other side of the field, so we couldnt see exactly what was going on. The video showed more. It seemed to go on and on. We played a part in it, too. As a parent we have to take ownership in the situation.
The parent said he didnt know who would fill in for Fields for todays game at Wayne.
A message for comment was left for FWCS spokeswoman Krista Stockman.
