Indiana High School Athletic Association commissioner Bobby Cox handed down sanctions for both sides of the fight during the football game between South Side and Indianapolis Tech last Friday.
Cox met with school officials late Tuesday afternoon at the IHSAA office inIndianapolisto discuss the game, which included a fight between players and coaches from both teams that stopped the game with1:40remaining in the third quarter and Tech leading South Side 24-6.
Included in those sanctions will be:
Both head coaches – South Side's Eddie Fields and Tech's Emil Ekiyor – will be suspended for one game.
Assistant coaches Angelo Muhammad of Indianapolis Tech and Dan Muchler of South Side are suspended for the remainder of the season.
A number of unnamed players for both teams will be suspended for one game.
Both schools will be placed on probation through the 2014 season.
Cox recommends the outcome of the game will be a double forfeit.
Cox also said that South Side will have a meeting Thursday with parents of the football players to discuss the issue and how behavior will be handled moving forward.
"We need to move forward from the incident," Cox said to reporters after the meeting. "It is an unfortunate situation that occurs when emotions run high. You can blame anybody you like, but that's not the issue. Placing blame doesn't solve anything to do with sportsmanship."
Cox said part of the probation will include educational through online videos on sportsmanship and observers at every remaining Tech and South Side game to ensure no more bad behavior.
