Nyloncraft Inc. will close its Fort Wayne factory at 5727 Industrial Road in stages during the next 12 months, taking about 100 jobs from the local economy, the company’s president and CEO said today.
Jim Krzyzewski said workers will be offered the opportunity to transfer within the company, which has production in Mishawaka; Jonesville, Mich.; and Nashotah, Wis.
Officials are still working out details of whether workers, who are not union members, will be offered a relocation allowance.
The company’s local workforce is 88 hourly, 11 salaried and 14 temporary workers.
Work and equipment will be moved to Mishawaka and Jonesville for the short term, Krzyzewski said. The long-term strategy could involve sending some of the work to Mexico, where many of the company’s customers are located.
Nyloncraft in Fort Wayne makes three product lines -- brake reservoirs, air suspension components and large surge tanks.
