2 Purdue players arrested on theft charge

Purdue football players B.J. Knauf and Jordan Woods were arrested Monday on preliminary Class D felony charges of theft, according to Cpl. Austin Gordon of the Tippecanoe County Jail.

The two redshirt freshmen were arrested at a Kohl’s department store in Lafayette, and were booked in the county jail Monday afternoon, Gordon said.

Knauf and Woods were each released on a $5,000 surety bond, Gordon said.

Knauf has nine receptions for 95 yards and a touchdown this season, as well as 90 rushing yards on 11 attempts and a score. The Florida native is one of the Boilermakers’ best receivers.

Woods has not played in a game for Purdue this season.

“Purdue head football coach Darrell Hazell is aware of today’s incident involving B.J. Knauf and Jordan Woods,” Purdue Associate Athletics Director Tom Schott said in a statement. “Hazell takes such matters seriously and respects that there is an ongoing legal process that he will allow to evolve before determining any possible internal disciplinary action.”
