A blaze heavily damaged an apartment Saturday evening in northeast Fort Wayne, according to the city fire department.
At 5:35 p.m., firefighters were sent to 1606 Hobson Road, in Jamestown apartments, near Lake Avenue, east of the VA Medical Center.
Heavy smoke and flames could be seen on the first and second floors of the apartment. No one was home at the time, the department said.
Firefighters entered the apartment and brought the flames under control in five minutes, the department said. The damage was described as heavy.
The flames did not spread to the neighboring units – 1610, 1608, 1604 and 1602 – thanks to fire walls in the structure, the fire department said.
The cause of the blaze is being investigated.
