No one was injured when a cooking fire heavily damaged several apartments on Fort Waynes south side Friday morning, the city fire department said.
Firefighters were called shortly after 9 a.m. to 6060 Turtle Creek Drive and found smoke and flames coming from the first and second floors, the department said. Extra crews were called because of the potential for the fire to spread.
Crews had the fire under control in a half-hour, containing it to one apartment and the attic.
Ceilings and walls in adjacent departments were breached to check whether the fire had spread, but no additional flames were found.
Occupants affected by the fire are being relocated into other apartments, the department said.
