A 2-year-old child pronounced dead after being pulled from a Whitley County pond Saturday has been identified as a Fort Wayne boy.
Lucas Michael Junk was at a South Whitley home with family members that afternoon when he briefly disappeared.
His family found him submerged but partly visible in a small pond, according to the Indiana Department of Conservation.
By the time conservation officers arrived at the scene, family members were performing CPR on the unresponsive boy.
His family said less than 10 minutes elapsed from the time he was last seen to the moment they pulled him from the pond.
His injuries suggest that he drowned, according to the Whitley County Coroner.
The boys obituary described him as a good, pure, kind and loving boy. Affectionately known as Monkeybutt, the boy loved his monkey, baseball and singing.
He is survived by his parents and sisters.
