Alcohol likely contributed to a crash that left a man in critical condition on the citys north side Monday morning.
A supervisor for the Three Rivers Ambulance Authority discovered the crash in front of the Rainbow Child Care Center at 2008 E. Dupont Road and called police at 3:34 a.m.
The crash appeared to involve one vehicle, according to police. The vehicle appeared to have been traveling east on Dupont when it struck the curb on the south side of the road.
The vehicle then left the roadway, struck a mailbox, went along the sidewalk and finally struck a utility pole, police said.
The name of the driver, a man who was the only person in the vehicle, has not been released. He was taken to a hospital in serious condition but then downgraded to critical, police said.
Investigators are still putting together what happened, and have not released why they believe alcohol contributed to the crash.
