FORT WAYNE – The traffic signal on Coliseum Boulevard at the former Value City Department Store driveway is scheduled for removal Wednesday afternoon, weather permitting.
After the signal is removed, the intersection will become a two-way stop controlled using signs on the two driveways to the east and west of Coliseum Boulevard (Indiana 930), the Indiana Department of Transportation announced Monday.
The Value City Department Store, 1130 Coliseum Blvd. N., went out of business in 2008.
INDOT conducted a traffic study in early 2013 on Coliseum Boulevard. It concluded that business closures in the area have drastically reduced traffic at the intersection and that a traffic signal is no longer justified.
An existing frontage-road system on either side of Coliseum Boulevard will allow drivers who feel uncomfortable using the stop-controlled intersection to use the traffic signal at the Kmart driveway, INDOT said.
