The driver of a semi truck that crashed into a bridge support in Steuben County on Sunday afternoon told police the wreck was caused by mechanical failure.
Stanic Kresimir, of Illinois, was driving a 2014 Volvo Tractor pulling a utility box trailer full of U.S. Postal Service mail eastbound on U.S. 20 at 12:45 p.m. when he struck the Interstate 80/90 bridge supports for the Indiana Toll Road, according to a release from the Steuben County Sheriffs Office.
Kresimir, 53, was taken to Cameron Hospital in Angola for treatment of a minor head injury, police said.
He was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and told police he believed mechanical failure was at fault.
The tractor and trailer were a total loss, but the mail inside was recovered, police said.
The accident remains under investigation.
