A report received Monday morning from the City of Fort Wayne Police Department:
On Monday, 09/23/2013, at approximately 3:34 AM, the City of Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the intersection of Dupont Road and Auburn Road reference a vehicle crash with injuries. Officers arrived on scene and determined the crash involved a single vehicle. The crash occurred in front of the Rainbow Child Care Center at 2008 East Dupont Road.
A Three Rivers Ambulance Authority supervisor was driving on Dupont Road and discovered the vehicle crash. The supervisor provided medical treatment to the victim and alerted police dispatch. When officers arrived on scene, the victim was conscious and speaking to the medic supervisor. The victim was transported by medics to a local hospital in serious condition. Upon arriving at the hospital, the victim was downgraded to critical condition by a physician.
Preliminary reports indicate the victim was the driver of the vehicle and the sole occupant. It appears the vehicle was traveling eastbound on Dupont Road prior to the crash. The vehicle struck the curb on the south side of the road and left the roadway. After leaving the roadway the vehicle struck a mailbox, traveled along the sidewalk, and struck a utility pole. It does appear alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash.
Eastbound Dupont Road was restricted to one lane while the Fatal Alcohol Crash Team (F.A.C.T) investigated the crash and processed the scene. This incident remains under investigation by the City of Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
