FORT WAYNE – After coming into the second round in fourth place, Team Indiana fell to eighth at the Womens State Team Championship in Kettering, Ohio.
The three-person Indiana team, which includes Fort Waynes Michelle Smith, is 16 over in the three-day tournament after going 14 over Wednesday at NCR Country Club.
New Jersey and Florida are tied for the lead at 5 over; New Jersey was even par in the second round of the United States Golf Association event.
Smiths score hasnt counted either day – she had an 18-over 93, following her opening 86 – and she is tied for 117th place among the 154 individual players.
Indianas Tobi Herron followed her 75 with a 77, while Nina Whalen followed a 73 with an 83.Alice Chen of New Jersey leads individually at 7 under – she has shot 72 and 67 – and Herron is tied for 10th at 6 over. Whalen is tied for 21st at 10 over.
Indiana has never won the tournament, which concludes today.
