A northwest Ohio man is accused of raping three children over an 11-year period.
Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine announced Wednesday that a Williams County grand jury had indicted Daniel Bignell, 40, on five counts of rape, two counts of attempted rape, four counts of gross sexual imposition and three counts of kidnapping.
Jill Del Greco of the attorney general’s office said Bignell was a resident of Edon at the time of the attacks and that his last known address was in Montpelier. She said the children were known to him and that he was not “snatching them off the streets.”
The crimes are alleged to have occurred between 1999 and 2010 and began when the children were 13 years old or younger, according to a statement Wednesday. Each kidnapping count carries a sexual motivation specification.
The Williams County Sheriff’s Office started investigating after one of the alleged victims, who is now an adult, came forward. The case is being prosecuted by attorneys from the attorney general’s Special Prosecutions Section.
Bignell was in custody Wednesday evening in the Williams County Jail.
