FORT WAYNE – Team Indiana, which includes Fort Waynes Michelle Smith, is in fourth place after the first round of the USGAs Womens State Team Championship.
Indiana is at 2 over at NCR Country Club in Kettering, Ohio, thanks to an even-par 73 from Nina Whalen and a 75 from Tobi Herron.
Indiana has never won the event. Smiths 86 wasnt counted Tuesday. Every day of the three-day tournament, the top two scores from each team counts toward its total.
Arizona is in the lead at 2 under. Florida is even par. New Mexico is 1 over.
Individual leaders are Marylands Bryana Nguyen, Kentuckys Lucy Nunn and Arizonas Hannah OSullivan, all at 2 under.
Smith tied for the 99th best individual score of the day.
