FORT WAYNE – The Rev. Kevin C. Rhoades, bishop of the Fort Wayne-South Bend Roman Catholic Diocese, had surgery Thursday to repair a broken collarbone.
The bishop was injured in a fall Sunday night while he was on his way to meetings in Washington D.C. of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, diocesan spokesman Sean McBride said Thursday.
Rhoades, 55, returned to Fort Wayne on Wednesday night and had the surgery at a Fort Wayne hospital, McBride said. He said he could not say which hospital.
The bishop asked for privacy about the injury, McBride said. But he added Rhoades came through the surgery with flying colors and considered it a minor setback.
Rhoades had stopped in southeast Pennsylvania for a noon Mass at Our Lady of Consolation parish in Parkesburg, Chester County, prior to the fall, McBride said. His sister, Robin McCracken, and her family are members there.
The bishop has indicated he does not plan to alter his upcoming schedule, McBride said.
