FORT WAYNE – It was like a war zone that September night in 2012 when an ambulance taking a stabbing victim to the hospital was pursued by gunmen shooting into the vehicle and the car following it.
A year later, four people from Fort Wayne were honored at the Indiana Emergency Response Conference:
- Heroic Rescue of the Year Award: Diane Lantz, Jeromy Yadon, of the Three Rivers Ambulance Authority, and Eric Zeiger, of the Fort Wayne Fire Department.
- Dispatcher of the Year Award: Rita Hughes, of Three Rivers Ambulance Authority.
Nineteen bullets penetrated the walls and glass of the ambulance and 18 more tore through the doors of the Chevrolet Impala following behind. No one died in the attack.
Two men were sentenced to decades behind bars.
