A horse found dead in its stall Friday likely injured itself after its halter got caught on something, the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department has determined.
Sheriff’s deputies and detectives went to a barn in the 3500 East stretch of County Road 450 South on Friday about the death of the 27-year-old appaloosa, the sheriff's department said in a statement.
It said the owner, Christina L. Meade, told police she had left the barn doors propped open and returned two hours later to find the doors closed and the horse dead.
Detectives concluded from the evidence that the horse was not maliciously injured, and was likely hurt while trying to get loose from something, the statement said.
It said Meade told police she believes that someone familiar with the farm allowed the horse outside the barn while she was gone.
