TOLEDO, Ohio – Police in northwest Ohio think they’ve found the remains of a toddler missing since June.
Investigators on Friday said a box removed from the rafters of a garage in Toledo contain the human remains of a young person.
Toledo Police Chief Derrick Diggs said the box was found Thursday at the house where 19-month-old Elaina Steinfurth was last seen three months ago. He said the property belongs to the boyfriend of the little girl’s mother.
Both the mother and the boyfriend are in jail after being accused of obstructing justice during the investigation. No other charges have been filed.
Investigators said it might take days or weeks to determine whether the remains are that of the girl.
