A Laketon man and his 4-year-old daughter were killed early today when their vehicle pulled into the path of a Norfolk Southern freight train at the Indiana 13 crossing in Sidney, the Kosciusko County FACT team said.
Wesley Teague Cox, 37, and his daughter, Grace Cox, 4, died at the scene from blunt-force trauma, the county coroner's office has ruled.
County sheriff's deputies and the Sidney/Jackson Township Fire Department responded to a 4:42 a.m. call about the crash, the Fatal Alcohol Crash Team said in a statement.
The statement said investigators believe the Cox family's vehicle, which was apparently headed north on Indiana 13, pulled into the path of the eastbound 61-car train.
The FACT team is continuing its investigation with the assistance of the coroner's office. Life-Med EMS also assisted at the scene.
