A family’s discovery of a dead relative Friday afternoon in a northeast Fort Wayne home has prompted a police investigation.
Officer Michael Joyner said the family became concerned when it could not reach their relative, a woman. So family members used a key to enter the house and found the woman dead, said Joyner, a city police spokesman.
Police officers were sent to the home, 5518 Myanna Lane, shortly after 1 p.m. Joyner said there was nothing that immediately indicated how the woman died. Nor could he say whether investigators suspected foul play. An autopsy is planned for Saturday.
“We are presently in death investigation mode,” Joyner said, adding the offices of the Allen County prosecutor and coroner were assisting in the probe.
Police did not identify the deceased woman. Joyner said she was the only person who lived in the home, which is in a subdivision near St. Joe Center and Maplecrest roads.
The woman’s dog was found in the home, and animal control officers took it into their custody.
