Both the driver of the jeep who was killed in a crash Tuesday and his passenger were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident, officials said.
Scott A. Saalfrank, 44, of Fort Wayne, was killed Tuesday after he was ejected and pinned underneath the 1985 Jeep he was driving, according to the Allen County Sheriff’s Department.
About 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Saalfrank and a passenger were traveling east on Hamilton Road after turning onto Hamilton from Thiele Road about 25 yards back, police said.
Saalfrank lost control of the vehicle and was ejected. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Allen County coroner.
Neither man was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, police said.
The passenger, a man, was taken to a hospital in good condition. The passenger’s identity was not released Wednesday.
Saalfrank’s death is the 23rd traffic fatality for Fort Wayne and Allen County in 2013.
