The lead singer of rock group The Calling was abducted, beaten and robbed after performing at a Michigan festival, the band said Monday.
Alex Band was attacked outside a store in Lapeer early Sunday, the group told The Associated Press.
Band had a spinal fracture, three broken teeth and needed 15 stitches in his chin, The Calling said in a statement.
Detective Sgt. Craig Gormley said in a statement – that doesnt name Band by name – that the victim reported two males forced him into a minivan, then assaulted and robbed him before dropping him off at a railroad crossing.
The Los Angeles groups 2001 song, Wherever You Will Go, was used in several TV series and in the movie Coyote Ugly.
Band acknowledged having past substance abuse problems, but denied what he said were rumors that the abduction report was either drug-related or faked.
Takei to lead dance
Star Trek actor George Takei will get a chance to show off some special dance moves as he leads a mass chicken dance at an annual Cincinnati festival.
Takei will serve as grand marshal of the citys annual Oktoberfest-Zinzinnati. The 76-year-old actor will lead the chicken dance Sept. 21.
Aretha Franklin will not be attending a baseball luncheon during which she was to receive a Beacon award for embodying the spirit of the civil rights movement, The Associated Press has learned.
Franklin, 71, has already canceled several concerts recently because of undisclosed health reasons. In a statement issued Monday by Major League Baseball, the Grammy-winning Queen of Soul referred to ongoing treatment that prevented her from traveling.
