SDI accident kills 1

A 44-year-old Albion man died in an industrial accident at Steel Dynamics in Columbia City on Monday, according to the Whitley County coroner.

Details on what led to Jeffery A. Flory’s death have not been released, and an autopsy that will determine how he exactly died is pending.

Steel Dynamics is working with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration to determine exactly what happened, an official with the company said.

“Our thoughts and prayers are going out to the Flory family and also to Jeff’s co-workers,” said Ben Eisbart, the vice president of human resources at Steel Dynamics.

The Whitley County Coroner’s Office was called to the Steel Dynamics at 2800 S. 800 E. in Columbia City at about 10:30 p.m. Monday night.

The coroner’s office was assisted by the Indiana State Police, the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department and the Union Township Fire Department.
