Police break up large meth operation

A complaint about the strong odor coming from an east-central Kendallville home led to the discovery Tuesday of a large-scale meth operation in a neighborhood just west of Bixler Lake.

Kendallville police officers were called to a house in the 400 block of Pleasant Street about 8:25 p.m. When they arrived, the officers recognized the smell of an active meth lab. A preliminary search revealed items commonly used to make meth and what officers suspected was the finished produce.

A full search of the property uncovered 13 one-pot manufacturing containers, and 52 generators and other items that are often used to make meth, police said in a statement. About 10 trash bags were found holding discarded containers and packaging from items also used to make the illegal drug, the police said.

It took three hours for meth units from the Indiana State Police and Kendallville to sort through the items.

The police said five people were arrested and charged on meth-related charges, including manufacturing methamphetamine:
