Bicyclist critical after area crash

A bicyclist who crashed Friday afternoon in Kosciusko County was hospitalized with severe injuries to his head and face, according to the sheriff’s department.

Daniel R. King, 50, of Leesburg was riding west on McKenna Road when he suddenly went over his handlebars for an unknown reason and hit his head on the pavement, a witness told the sheriff’s department.

About 4:20 p.m., medics and sheriff’s deputies were called to McKenna Road, east of Robert Lewis Drive, and they found King on the ground.

CPR was performed on him, and he was flown by helicopter to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne. He was in critical condition, the sheriff’s department said.

King was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, according to the sheriff’s department.
