A truck driver was injured Thursday morning in this crash near Butler, the DeKalb County Sheriff's Department said tonight.

Trucker hurt after striking tree

A Hicksville, Ohio, man was injured Thursday when his truck drove off Indiana 8 in DeKalb County, struck a tree and overturned, the county sheriff's department said.

Gary L. McCain, 46, was in stable condition at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne with a broken arm and chest and internal injuries, the sheriff's department said in a statement.

Police said McCain was driving west on Indiana 8, east of County Road 51, about 10:30 a.m. when he drove off the right side of the road and struck a tree.

The truck overturned, coming to rest on the passenger side and trapping McCain inside, they said.

Police said McCain, who was not wearing a seat belt, was extricated by Butler firefighters.

DeKalb EMS and the Indiana Department of Transportation also assisted the sheriff's department.
