Heroin, pot, pills seized in U.S. 30 arrests

Three men were arrested in Whitley County on drug charges after heroin, pot and pills were seized in a traffic stop on U.S. 30, according to a statement from the Indiana State Police.

A trooper stopped a vehicle at County Road 100 South, just outside Columbia City, about 2:40 p.m. Tuesday, state police at Fort Wayne said in a statement.

After the illegal drugs were found, police said, including 50 grams of heroin and “numerous narcotic pills," the following men were charged:

  • Edward J. Jones, 35, of Chicago, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, refusal to identify and false informing. State police said Jones also had two federal arrest warrants on charges of trafficking heroin.
  • The driver, Michael D. Yoha, 33, of Mansfield, Ohio, was charged with possession of heroin or a narcotic drug of more than 3 grams, and possession with intent to distribute.
  • Vanness D. Oliver, 34, of Mansfield, was charged with possession of heroin or a narcotic drug of more than 3 grams, and possession with intent to distribute.
